Glucose Meter: Take A Minute To Shop

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with diabetes, one of your first steps will likely be to find a glucose meter. There are some things to keep in mind as you make your decision because this piece of equipment is likely to be part of your life for the foreseeable future.

Cost is a major issue for most people, but theres good news if you have any kind of medical insurance. A glucose meter is typically considered to be a vital part of medical treatment and insurance companies often pay for a portion or the entire cost of the meter. At the same time, there is sometimes a limit on the amount the insurance company will pay, and that may severely limit your options.

While cost is naturally important, remember that youre going to be living this life from now on. Finding a cheaper glucose meter that requires a more serious stick for blood may seem like the best option when youre writing the check for the meter, but the tedium of the daily stick may negate that cost in the long run.

There are some companies out there that help with the cost of a glucose meter if you meet specific income guidelines. This may be a good answer if your quandary about which meter to buy is purely based on financial restraints. Remember that Medicare often pays on this important testing equipment as well. Your doctor, druggist or representative of a local medical supply company may also be good sources of information about how to find the best deals and how to get help paying for a glucose meter.

Finding a very inexpensive glucose meter may be the best answer to this situation. If the meter is accurate, itll get you through the initial period of adjusting your life to the regular testing of your blood sugar. Then take time to do some research into whats hot and whats not in glucose meters. Youll find that some make absolutely ridiculous claims and you may have to ask some questions to find those companies that produce the glucose meter that will work best for you and your lifestyle.

One of the great things about the Internet is that its created a global community for discussions of topics such as diabetes. Youll find there are a number of forums that will allow you to talk to others facing your situation. This is a good place for information about which glucose meter is the latest and greatest in technology, and which companies are making claims that are simply not true.

    Customer Reviews:
VERY easy to use. Helped me during my pre-eclamptic pregnancy.
I bought this blood pressure cuff when my doctor put my on bed rest and told me to carefully monitor my blood pressure. I was diagnosed with PIH during my third trimester of pregnancy. The feature that saves your last 80 pressure readings made it very easy to see if my pressure was changing and going up each day. The whole device is super easy to use too. I put on quite a bit of weight from swelling and water retention at the end of my pregnancy too so the two cuff sizes were also great.

The display is large and easy to read. The little case it comes in made it easy to pack up and take with me. The package said it was ideal for pregnant women and it definitely was for me. I plan to keep using it until my pressure returns to normal, and I will definitely use it if and when I decide to have another baby.

*My only complaint is that a backlight would have been nice to check pressure in darker lighting.

    Great blood pressure monitor!
This monitor is accurate and detailed. It’s simple to use and gives you all the information you need to monitor your pulse and blood pressure for smart living. It also has a memory so you can refer back to a past reading to compare your numbers.

Registered nurse gives it 5 stars
I bought this product to monitor my blood pressure. I could not use my usual cuff and stethescope easily to take my own pressure. This unit works easily and accurately. The instructions for use were simple to understand. In terms of patient education I would recommend this device to anyone who wants a simple to use, comfortable and accurate device. It stores and can be transported easily in the padded kit. Because it has two sizes of cuffs, it is great for average and large framed females, but also for the larger size that a man may require, making it ideal for a husband/wife unit. Note: If you have a very slender or extremely frail female, there is no child size cuff in the set, which would be needed. The same would be true for an obese adult; their is no thigh size cuff. Using the wrong size cuff gives inaccurate blood pressue readings. There is a measuring tape to help someone determine if they meet the cuff size requirements for the two cuffs included. It only stores one user in memory but allows for “guest” use. If you need two individuals stored in memory it would be better to find a unit that records and saves two different users. I am most happy with this blood pressure unit and would recommend it to anyone (noting exceptions for frail or obese users).

Omron Elite 7300W Blood Pressure Monitor
I am very happy with this monitor. It is accurate and easy to use. the best is the large cuff. Great Product.

    7300W Monitor review
This monitor is accurate, and lets me know how my blood pressure varies during the day. I’d buy it again.
